Smoothies are a great way to start the day, I would recommend treating yourself to a good blender. I have a Nutribullet and it is so quick and easy to use.
Here is my mini-guide to helping you make the perfect smoothie:
Step 1 - Choose your liquid. Add one 1 cup of the following into the blender. Coconut water, milk of your choice, or water.
Step 2 - Choose your fruit. You need half a cup of creamy fruit (i.e. bananas, mango, avocado), and half a cup of non-creamy fruit (i.e. strawberries, blueberries, kiwis, apple ). If you are using fresh fruit you will need to add 1 cup of ice.
Step 3 - Add in a tablespoon of fibre. Rolled oats, flaxseed, chia seeds and hemp seeds are all great options that will give you an extra fibre boost.
Step 4 - Choose your fat. Good options include ¼ avocado, tablespoon of nut butter, tablespoon of nuts and seeds or a tablespoon of coconut cream.
Step 5 - Choose your protein. 2 tablespoons of plain full fat Greek yoghurt, good quality protein powder, almond meal or LSA mix.
Step 6 - Choose your nutrient dense food. Choose 1-3 of the following. Teaspoon cacao powder, teaspoon maca powder, teaspoon cinnamon, teaspoon fresh grated ginger, teaspoon flaxseed meal, teaspoon chia seeds.
Step 7 - Add in a handful of greens. My faves are fresh spinach, kale and mint.
Step 8 - Add in a sweetener. This is optional. I like brown rice syrup or honey.
Step 9 - Blend until smooth. Add extra liquid, ice or sweetener if needed
Step 10 - Pour into a glass and drink!
